iDigBio Collaborations Enabling Research

To facilitate the study of biodiversity, a number of software products are being collaboratively developed with researchers and projects.  These websites, tools, and workflows take advantage of the data being digitized at US and global institutions and made available by iDigBio through our data  services. Many other tools and services can be found through the Biodiversity Catalogue.

Out of the Darkness - Bringing Biological Collections into the 21st Century

Larry Page would like to get back to his fishes, the catfish and loaches he studies as a University of Florida ichthyologist, but first he and his colleagues have some work to do on plant, animal and fossil specimens — millions of them.
 
Page and an army of helpers are on year three of iDigBio, a 10-year, $12 million effort to digitize the biological specimens tucked away in museum collections across the country. He estimates there could be 1 billion nationally, representing the collected knowledge of biological diversity for vast swaths of the planet.

iDigBio Grad Student, Claudia Segovia, Awarded 2014 Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship

 
Claudia Segovia, a Graduate Student working with Dr. Pam Soltis on the iDigBio project, has been awarded the 2014 Association for Academic Women “Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship,” which honors an outstanding female graduate student. Claudia works in the Molecular Systematic and Evolutionary Genetics Lab at UF's Florida Museum of Natural History.

Welcome to the second annual iDigBio Retreat! The retreat will provide an open forum for the entire iDigBio team to review iDigBio’s progress and our plans for the future. In addition, the retreat will provide an opportunity for us to get to know one another better and enhance our teambuilding.

Lobby for the Biological Sciences

Each year, the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) organizes an opportunity for scientists to inform the nation's science policy. The Biological Sciences Congressional District Visits event enables scientists to meet with their federal or state elected officials and allows policymakers to learn first-hand about the science and research facilities in their district.
