AbstractTo increase the utility of its collections and to protect historical specimens from destructive sampling, NCSC is making freely available samples of recent and silica gel desiccated vascular plant material for taxonomic research. A unique attribute of this initiative in North Carolina is its focus on the scale of florulas, rather than select taxa. Making this material available for molecular studies that elucidate plant evolutionary relationships is consistent with the primary mission of NCSC to document and understand plant diversity.
