iDigBio is headed for the yearly COLLAB-IT meeting, that's Collaborative - IT. NSF provides funding for continued collaboration between the various Bio centers including monthly conference calls and yearly meetings. You can check out the agenda for our upcoming 2-day meeting, October 7-8 in East Lansing, MI. Last year's meeting was held at NESCent, and this year's meeting is at BEACON.
We're always looking for ways to work together, and one example is the recent formation of http://datacarpentry.org/ and a series of biodiversity informatics workshops being held at the Bio centers.
At this year's meeting we'll be reviewing the goals we set for ourselves last year and reporting back to each other what's new for our respective projects. All of us are looking forward to setting up new initiatives that enhance our interconnectedness and facilitate expertise-sharing across the groups. Some topics we'll tackle include: what's working, what are some of the pain points, what common issues do our stakeholders have that we can address together, how do we continue to address data literacy gaps for our stakeholders, and for sustainability - how do we preserve staff institutional memory in these large projects.
