Title: Documenting the Ethnobiology of Mexico and Central America (DEMCA)
Speaker: Jonathan Amith
Date: Wednesday 3/14/2018
Time: 12:00pm-1:00pm Eastern Time
The webinar will review the Documenting the Ethnobiology of Mexico and Central America (DEMCA) project. DEMCA will create an online “library” that links data for 10,000 plant and arthropod specimens; 15,000 photos; information about the indigenous names, classifications, and uses; and more than 1,000 recordings of indigenous experts discussing their traditional knowledge about these species. The project is envisioned as a prototype that can be expanded to other Native American cultures. This project will expand Symbiota, a widely used open source content management system software used for curating biological specimen data, to a more robust platform for sharing content created by multidisciplinary collaborators. demca.sites.gettysburg.edu
