Pam Soltis comments on Paris Museum of Natural History’s digitization efforts.
“Digitization of data and images is transforming the use of natural history collections.” This quote by Dr. Pam Soltis, botanist at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville, Florida, appeared in the May 2nd, 2014 edition of Science, which also noted that iDigBio has 13 million records as part of NSF's commitment to digitization of collections in the U.S. The magazine interviewed Dr. Soltis, iDigBio.org, about the Paris Museum of Natural History’s digitization project that has brought nearly 6 million images of herbarium specimens on-line over the past 30 months. The Paris Museum hosts the world’s largest natural history plant collection with some specimens dating to the 17th century.
