Abstract: Water Quality. Sustainable and available Energy. Climate Changes. Biodiversity loss. Habitat restoration. Natural hazards. Demographic dynamics. All of these issues of our 21st Century are increasingly complex and affect our everyday lives. They also all occur somewhere and exhibit specific spatial patterns, which can be better understood and managed through the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Today’s GIS data and tools are quickly migrating to the web, where they can be accessed from any device. Field data collection can be easily accomplished through mobile web applications, and the resulting data can be mapped and analyzed. Mapped data can be displayed in 2D and 3D formats, embedded in web pages, and combined with audio, video, photographs, and narrative to tell powerful stories. Data can also be gathered by citizen scientists in real time. The advent of web based GIS has had an impact on location privacy, data access, and data quality. Join Geographer and educator Joseph Kerski as we learn how to use these tools, maps, and perspectives in an exciting, hands-on workshop, and how to use them in your own work.

The Education and Outreach Working Group is collaborating with the Small Collections Network on a series of webinars for Fall 2016.

This is the second webinar in the series.
