iDigBio's Fluid-preserved Arthropod and Microscopic Slide Imaging Interest Group announces an upcoming interest group webinar/meeting on new developments in high resolution, rapid throughout microscopic slide imaging.

Topic: High resolution scanning of insects on microscopic slides.
Date/time: 15 October 2014, Noon-1:00 p.m. EDT.
Where: https://idigbio.adobeconnect.com/invertimaging
Presenters: Rob Meyer and Scott Blakely
Description: This webinar is a follow-up to a previous session featuring the Nanozoomer scanner by Hamamatsu. At the earlier webinar, Hamamatsu scanners were deemed to have limited utility for scanning microscopic slides of biological specimens due to their limited depth of field (approximately 100 um). Rob Meyer reports that these scanners have been tweaked and are now able to reach 2.0 mm depth of field, enough to scan most insects under a cover slip.
