Join iDigBio’s E&O Team for our next meeting from our SciComm (Science Communcation) Series on September 5th at 1PM ET! As always, the E&O meetings are free to attend and open to anyone!

Our next guests are Gabriel-Philip Santos and Dr. Lisa Lundgren. Gabriel is a paleontologist, educator, and storyteller. He is currently the Director of Visitor Engagement and Education at the Alf Museum of Paleontology. He received his B.Sc. in biology at University of California-Irvine, and his M.Sc. in geology at California State University-Fullerton. His previous research interests focused on the Eocene vertebrate fauna of Southern California and the paleobiology of marine mammals, particularly in the extinct hippo-like desmostylians. He now focuses his work on science education and engaging audiences through projects like the Cosplay for Science Initiative. He was named a 2021 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow with National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions for his work in science education and has recently joined as a host for the popular PBS Digital Series, Eons, where he gets to share stories about the ancient world.

Dr. Lisa Lundgren is a design-based researcher who is always seeking to understand what works, for whom, and under what conditions. Her research focuses on how people learn about science topics in various contexts, including social media, schools, museums, and comic-cons. Dr. Lundgren considers herself a socioculturalist, who is especially enamored with empirically testing the Communities of Practice theoretical framework. She uses mixed methods to conduct her research, but specializes in content analysis and social network analysis.
