Wendy Applequist, Associate Curator at the Missouri Botanical Garden, will present a symposium on Tuesday afternoon of the Botany 2014 conference.
The following is the abstract for the symposium from the Botany 2014 website (http://www.2014.botanyconference.org/engine/search/index.php?func=detail&aid=9):
This symposium represents a follow-up to the NSF-funded U.S. Workshop on DNA Banking, held in St. Louis in January 2013. That meeting included representatives of institutions dealing with all major groups of multicellular taxa. The proposed symposium will have three goals: (1) introduce the major conclusions of the workshop to the broader botanical community (the Proceedings volume is expected to be newly printed and made available at Botany 2014); (2) engage in more detailed and public discussion of the specific interests of the botanical community, including presentation of the results of new methodological research inspired by the workshop; and (3) build community support for major recommendations of the white paper resulting from the workshop, including collecting and networking initiatives.
