The University of Alaska Museum (UAM) houses one of the 10 largest mammal collections in North America, with over 115,000 catalogued specimens. Over 90% of these are from Alaska and include unparalleled series of small mammals, carnivores, and marine mammals. Over 70,000 include frozen tissue samples housed in UAM's Genomic Resources facility. An average of 1,000 specimens are loaned to researchers each year.
