|valign="top"| The Field Museum of Natural History, National Science Foundation, and iDigBio co-sponsored a free 1-day workshop for undergraduate students in the Chicago area focusing on opportunities for careers and graduate study in the biological sciences. A primary goal of the event was to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities in the biological sciences, including African/Black Americans, American Indians, Native Alaskans and Hawaiians, and Hispanics/Chicanos/Latinos. About 50 undergraduates and recent graduates attended the workshop and with about 30 professional scientists on hand, students had plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss interests with working biologists and collections professionals.) | |||
