Although metadata for millions of specimens have been assembled in several collection management systems, integration into pipelines for serving source modifers of DNA sequence data does not exist. A majority of GenBank sequence records lack the most basic source modifiers. A new GenBank sequence submission module has been developed to automatically populate source modifiers during sequence submission, thus greatly improving the integration and attribution of specimen and genetic data.

Cleaning Data in Symbiota – Anne Barber, April 23th, 2018

Webinar Recording
Anne Barber will talk about new data cleaning tools have been implemented in Symbiota. The taxonomic data cleaning tool checks for names that aren't connected to the central thesaurus, then automatically searches Tropicos and Catalog of Life for matches. If found, the name is automatically imported to the central thesaurus. If not found, the user has the option to remap to a correct name or manually enter the correction. The geographic cleaning tool automatically searches for potential mismatches in country, stateProvince, county, and locality and allows the user to make corrections from within the tool. Anne will demonstrate how each of these new tools may be used to improve your dataset.
