Workshop Summary

iDigBio, the National Science Foundation’s national HUB for Advancing Digitization of Biodiversity Collections (ADBC), is hosting a workshop to expand the number of persons in the community able to train others to georeference biodiversity specimens. The workshop will be held at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, on October 8 - 12, 2012. It is organized by iDigBio's Georeferencing Working Group and iDigBio Staff. Members of all 7 current TCNs are participating in this workshop as are invited applicants for the few open spots.

Travel to Gainesville, FL

Shuttle from Gainesville Airport to the Hotel

The Holiday Inn will provide shuttle service from the Gainesville airport to the hotel. When you reach the Gainesville airport, call the Holiday Inn at 352-376-1661 to request a shuttle pick-up. If the shuttle is unavailable, Bestway Cab is a local taxi service and they may be reached at 352-367-8222. Retain taxi receipts for reimbursement.

Hotel Check-in

A block of rooms have been reserved for Workshop participants, and participant names have been provided to the hotel. Please notify the hotel that you are part of the iDigBio Workshop upon check-in to verify that you are receiving a room from this block. Workshop Check-in

Workshop materials will be (including a printed agenda, name tag, and wireless Id) will be distributed as participants arrive at the workshop location on October 8th. Power for laptops, wired access for laptops and University wireless access will be provided for all participants. Please plan to arrive by 8:45 am on Monday for check-in to enable a prompt start time at 9:00 am.

Meals and Other Activities

Breakfast is on your own. Lunch is provided on Monday and Tuesday October 8th and 9th. Lunch on your own on for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Lunch is from 12:30pm-1:30pm each day. Vegetarian options will be available. A reception/dinner is scheduled on Thursday October 11th, beginning at 7:00 pm at Leonardo's 706 which is within easy walking distance of the hotel.

A per diem will be paid for all meals not included as workshop functions; there is no need to retain receipts for these per diem meals. There are a number of other restaurants within the immediate vicinity of the hotel and the workshop location: Google Map

Shuttle to the Gainesville Airport

During your stay at the Holiday lnn University Center, schedule the shuttle for your return to the airport at the front desk. Reimbursement Procedures: Any meals not provided as workshop functions will be reimbursed at the state per diem rate (Breakfast $6, Lunch $11, Dinner $19), no receipts are needed. Taxi fares, parking fees, and baggage fees may qualify for reimbursement – please retain your original receipts.
