The collections contain approximately 72,000 specimens, which document the distribution and natural variation of vascular plants and bryophytes in Kansas, adjacent states, and North America. Many specimens from southeast Kansas and regionally are not duplicated elsewhere. The collections also include important holdings from abroad (Dem. Rep. Congo; Peru; Myrtaceae of Madagascar and New Caledonia; Poaceae worldwide).
