These holdings include fluid preserved fishes stored in 70% ethanol, dried skeletons, and cleared and stained skeletons. The VIMS collection also houses a number of specimens of significant general scientific interest, including two specimens of the Coelacanth, a whole-body specimen of a juvenile Great White Shark, and unique distributional records (e.g., an Ocean Sunfish from the Chesapeake Bay).
